Advanced Reservoir Characterization
This advanced course has been specifically designed to magnify the importance of reservoir description in performance prediction, field development and reservoir management. Field decisions are impacted by the quantitative definition of reservoir heterogeneities. There is a drive toward cost efficiency in field management
The participants should focus on the analysis and interpretation of geological, petrophysical, engineering and geophysical data to derive reservoir models in regards to the continuity of reservoir parameters, the distribution of shale barriers, and the interwell distribution. Reservoir description parameters include the rock texture and mineralogy, the distribution of porosity, permeability, and Sw, and the values for OOIP, OGIP, and rate forecast.

Participants will learn:
- Why reservoir description is so critical
- The rationale and application of reservoir description concepts
- The nature of reservoir heterogeneities and discuss techniques for classifying and quantifying them
- Geostatistical techniques and concepts
- The techniques of pixel-based and object-based modelling in building quantitative models of the distribution of reservoir properties
- To integrate seismic interpretation in reservoir models
- The techniques of scaleup and uncertainty quantification
- Examples of several case studies
- Introduce you to new technologies and tools available
